about us
wichcraft was founded in 2003 by partners Sisha Ortuzar, Jeffrey Zurofsky, and Tom Colicchio, chef and owner of the Craft family of restaurants and head judge of Bravo’s Top Chef. The three had a long history of working together in fine dining restaurants such as Manhattan’s top-rated Gramercy Tavern and Craft, but this collaboration was decidedly more casual. Together, the team created wichcraft, an innovative sandwich service like no other. Known for crafting sandwiches with high-quality, fresh ingredients, wichcraft puts a chef’s expertise into its menu of sandwiches. Every ingredient is made from real food and nothing is filler, always resulting in a robust and balanced meal for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
wichcraft has always obtained its ingredients from artisan producers like Pain D’Avignon for the bread that holds our sandwiches together and small farmers like Eckerton Hill Farm to star in our summer seasonal BLT sandwich. We are proud of the farmers and businesses we have helped grow along with our expansion across New York City and to San Francisco and Las Vegas. As part of our long-standing partnership with GrowNYC, wichcraft has been at the forefront of supporting local farming and sharing the farm-to-table movement with as many people as possible. In addition, we’ve worked with the Fresh Air Fund as part of the company’s commitment to give back to our community by training and employing inner-city kids, whose energy and creativity have only added to the company’s spirit and success.
The wichcraft menu includes breakfast items, sandwiches, soups, salads, and pastries – all made from scratch daily. We prepare almost everything in our own kitchen, which allows us to hand pick each ingredient and ensure unparalleled quality. We slow roast, braise, and poach our sandwich meats; we hand pull mozzarella; and we bake pastries and spin ice creams each morning. Whenever possible we work with small producers, use greenmarket vegetables and serve sustainably raised meat. And when there’s a great local artisanal item that just can’t be improved upon it very likely may end up on the menu. Even our beverages come from companies that share our commitment to quality, including coffee from La Colombe, soda from Boylan Bottling Company and teas from Mighty Leaf.
One of our goals has always been to change the perception that exceptional food should be “experienced” in a formal atmosphere and with great ceremony, so wichcraft guests enjoy their meals in a casual setting at an affordable price. They can always expect to walk into a beautifully designed space and receive a friendly greeting from our professional staff.
Our cold sandwiches and baked goods are a delicious and quick option for someone on the go; those with a few minutes to spare might try a hot or pressed sandwich – it will be cooked to order in about 8 minutes.
After ordering at the counter guests are welcome to sit down, relax and even catch up on their reading as they peruse our selection of magazines or get some work done using our free wi-fi. Within a few minutes their freshly prepared meal will arrive at their table.
Today wichcraft remains privately held by its founding team. While we love expanding into new neighborhoods our growth is controlled so that our focus always remains on quality. Our stores, located in New York City, Las Vegas, and San Francisco, offer eat-in seating, take-out, delivery and catering service.
